Construction Site Operative for Unemployed
Gain the skills, knowledge and certification required to become a Construction Site Operative.
This course is aimed at individuals seeking a career in the construction industry as a Site Operative. The skills, knowledge and certification gained will provide them with the core competencies to work in this role and a foundation from which to build a successful career.
The course is also an excellent route for those looking to undertake a craft or trade but who first want to get an overview of the industry before committing.
Course outline:
City & Guilds (6219) L1 Award Construction Skills (601/0324/3)
• Introduction to health and Safety
• Constructing half brick walling
• Constructing half brick return corners
NOCN CSkills Awards Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment (603/2371/1)
• Classroom learning assessed via an exam:
• Principles of risk assessment for maintaining and improving health and safety at work
• Importance of safe manual handling in the workplace
• Importance of working safely at height in the workplace
• Importance of working around plant and equipment safely
Practical skills:
• Basic bricklaying skills; suitable for building chambers and raising ironwork
• Preparation of areas to receive paving / block paving.
• Safe use of wacker plate.
• Block paving skills
• Safe use of cut off saw including abrasive wheels
• Mixing & placing concrete and reinforced concrete
Practical assessment:
NOCN Site Right Certificate: Safe use of cut off saws including abrasive wheels
CSCS Green Card Test
*Please note, participants are required to attend all 11 days, (10 days if already in possession of CSCS green card)
Progression routes:
• Career as a Site Operative
• Progression to supervisory roles
• Progression to a trade or craft
• Various specialisms such a plant operator or ground worker
Upon completion of the course, participants will have the opportunity of a job interview with an employer with a view to successful candidates gaining employment.

Duration: 11 days Delivery will take place 9am – 5pm, five days a week for a period of two weeks followed by one further day to undertake the examination for the CSCS Green Card.
How will I learn:
Programme will be delivered face to face and taught via a combination of interactive lessons in class and practical skills within a workshop setting.

Eligibility
Must be aged 19 or over on the course start date. Employed, Self-Employed and Unemployed participants are eligible. Please note: Participants who are ‘Economically Inactive’ are not eligible for this project. Must have the right to legally reside and work in the UK and live in in West Yorkshire. Participants cannot be in full time education or on an apprenticeship at the time of joining. Must not have undertaken a Skills Connect course in the past (an individual can only receive funding for one course).
